For four days, the industry presented an exciting mix of new technologies, materials and surfaces in an extraordinary range. In addition to the market-leading companies, many small think tanks were once again represented.
Precisely because of this diversity, not only were the latest materials, materials and manufacturing processes on show at the fair, but also trends and visions for the design of our living and working environments of tomorrow.
The theme of this year’s Interzum was sustainability. Aspects such as resource efficiency, smart materials, renewable energies or recycling and upcycling were key to many of the exhibitors’ innovations. The Trend Forums and platforms showcased pioneers of the circular economy, low-emission bio-based materials and solutions for climate-positive construction. The interzum award 2023 provided further inspiration for trailblazing eco-friendly solutions in furniture production and interior design. The new award category “Neo-Ecology” recognised innovative products, processes and concepts that reduce resource consumption and carbon footprint or raise social and ethical standards.
This focus on sustainability is a welcome and important shift in a sector where this issue has previously been pushed towards the side-lines. With momentum and demand building, our ability to manufacture high performance products in a sustainable and ethical way has never been more important.
